The Preschool room

Our Preschool Program is open for children 3 – 4 years old. Helping your child become problem solvers, Preschool prepares your child to seize each day with new learning and new achievements. Days mix High Reach Learning and Creative Curricula. Teachers set out puzzles, blocks, and art supplies children choose from. Ask us what your child's room looks like now, and what changes when the Montessori curriculum begins in June 2020.

What to expect

Pre-Kindergarten

Windsor Happy School provides Pre-Kindergarten for children 4 years of age and takes part in the state's Voluntary Pre-K initiative. The goal is to prepare four-year-olds for the tasks and challenges of formal K12 education ahead. Children get time to explore their world, discover basic concepts, and do tasks that build motivation and an early love for learning. Ask us about the activities and how to enroll your child.

What this looks like in practice

In a licensed preschool room, children move between small groups, play centers, and quiet corners. They build with blocks, sort and count, paint, and listen to stories. Teachers sit at their level, ask questions, and help them solve problems with words. Expect wet artwork, dirty sleeves, and a tired child at pickup. Ask the director how your center paces naps, snacks, and outdoor time.

The change parents notice first is usually at home. A child who could not sit through a meal starts finishing one. A child who gave up on a puzzle after one try goes back to it. Children bring home new words, songs, and questions, and they start asking to do things themselves. That is the problem solving that shows up long before a report card does.

A smiling young boy in a striped shirt sits at a table with a plate of food and a red sippy cup, holding a piece of food to his mouth.
